Tips for Keeping Your Family and Auto Cool in the Summer Heat

Stay Cool & Warm: Best Car & Home Shade Solutions

Wouldn’t it be great to have a heater blanket for your car during the cold months? I would also like to jump in and drive a cool car during hot summer days. Not everyone can afford a climate-controlled garage. I have a car park and my ute is exposed to all elements.

In just a few minutes of warm-up, our autos are at temperature and ready to keep us warm as we drive home from work. In the blazing hot rays of summer, it is a different story. Once the air conditioner is running, it has to cool the ducts and the volume of air, and then it starts to cool us. The interior and exterior are heat-soaked and take time to cool to a non-sweating temp.

My mother taught me how to keep a home cool by controlling the light we allowed in. We park under or near a tree for shade when out with our cars.

Auto covers with reflective coating are effective in preventing UVA/UVB from damaging your paint finish, the interior material beauty and keep things cool. They are a tad difficult to drive with, so we have a myriad of car shades to choose from. Have you tried any of these options?

  • I know you have or had the collapsible or folding panel windscreen shades. They cover most of the front window and keep the sun off your dash. Again, hard to drive with.
  • Window tinting is not only useless, but it increases the temperature of my ute. Not ideal.
  • We see plenty of versions of the suction-cup style shade for side windows. They have partial coverage and render the window useless for opening.
  • The model-specific window shades are impressive. Have you seen them? They are magnetic, fit precisely and you can operate your window when needed. I have these on my rear passenger windows.
  • Like a heating blanket in the winter, a cantilever car shade is not convenient to pull out of the boot and erect anywhere. A cantilever shade would be effective at home if winds were reasonable.

While vehicle temperature is important for comfort, home temperature is vital for cost control. How would you like a lower utility bill this summer? Give your home a fresh look with some native shade trees.

We have laws that determine allowable auto window tint. At home, most of us choose a window treatment combination of shades and curtains. My home stays comfortable without air conditioning up to 37 ° C. It is then I invoke air conditioning.
